OMER DAY 30

Adonai’s Love – Agape (Cont.)

“Those who do not love, do not know God; because God is love. Here is how God showed his love among us: God sent his only Son into the world, so that through him we might have life. Here is what love is: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the kapparah (covering) for our sins.”

1 John 4:8-10

Like you, I have heard the term ‘agape’ many times, both in and out of a congregational setting. However, it wasn’t until a few years ago that I truly understood its full meaning. The simplest meaning of agape is charity, giving to others. Beyond that, though, its meaning is anything but simple. Its fuller sense gives us an understanding of being unconcerned about the needs of self and focusing on the needs of the greater good. Unlike other forms of ‘love’ agape is not emotional, irrational or focused on attraction (lust). Agape is a clear choice, rational and personable. This is love that is faithful, committed and sacrificial, without expecting anything in return. Does this remind you of the execution stake?

Abba B’Shamayim, Heavenly Father, thank You for the Agape love you have given to each of us, who has committed ourselves to striving to be more like Adonai Yeshua, the Lord Jesus. B’Shem Adonai Yeshua, Mashichainu, our Messiah, Amen.
