Our True Purpose
The heart’s real intentions are like deep water;
but a person with discernment draws them out. Proverbs 20:5
While researching the issue of understanding ‘our life’s true purpose’, I came upon the following observation: “Over the last seven years, I’ve helped eight friends and family members who were very ill and stayed with them until they passed on. I’ve been so busy that I don’t have time to figure out my soul’s missions. “
I wonder how many of us have reacted in the same manner? What do we consider to be our ‘soul’s mission’? Perhaps, such as the woman above, we are engaged in our soul’s mission without recognizing we are?
What is our soul’s mission? Is it some deep passion, which we follow, sometimes without conscious choice? Or, is it something we are led to by circumstances or another’s urging?
We are called by Yahveh to serve Him. How we serve Him is decided by God Himself, based on the gifts He has given us and the desires of our hearts, as they rise to the surface, from His call. One of the greatest calls for us is to be like Adonai Yeshua, the Lord Jesus, as we are told in 2 Corinthians 3:18 – So all of us, with faces unveiled, see as in a mirror the glory of the Lord; and we are being changed into his very image, from one degree of glory to the next, by Adonai the Spirit.
Our true nature, that which we call the soul, has an innate desire to contribute to the world around us. This drive comes to us through the urging of Ruach HaKadosh, the Holy Spirit of the Living God. We are led to this conclusion through Rav Sha’ul’s writings in 1 Corinthians 3:16 – Don’t you know that you people are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you, Romans 8:14 – All who are led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons, and Romans 8:27 – the one who searches hearts knows exactly what the Spirit is thinking, because his pleadings for God’s people accord with God’s will. When Ruach HaKadosh enters us, we are given God’s desire to fulfill the plan He has for us. When we accept Adonai Yeshua into our lives, we will be compelled by Him to heed Yahveh’s call upon us.
Beloved, when we are pushed towards a desire to make a valuable contribution, in whatever form, in the lives of others, know we are being led by Yahveh, through His Blessed Holy Spirit. This is the true purpose for each one of us, who are of Yahveh’s children.
CONSIDER: Do you have a strong desire to do something you have never done before, knowing that what is being asked of you will benefit others? Have you been ignoring that urging?
ACT: Pray that God, through His Blessed Holy Spirit will make it clear to you, what He wishes you to do.
PRAY: Beloved Abba, I desire to be in your will, at all times. I pray that you lead and guide me towards the true purpose for my life, while on this earth. Give me the confidence and the comfort to engage in the task you ask of me. B’Shem Adonai Yeshua, the Lord Jesus, Amen.
